Man, the fishing has been fantastic over the last week! The redfish have been chewing big time in the creeks in Saint Augustine from Villano Inlet north. We’ve had our best luck tossing mud minnows on a quarter ounce jig head. On a few days where I had better anglers, we threw some of the new Berkley Gulp baits in the same areas and caught just as many fish. It’s definitely been a better bite on the lower part of the tide so as this week goes on, it’s gonna be a little later in the day… be a good time to go to lunch from work and never come back! Ha ha… That being said the top water bite has been pretty good early on the higher water as well. Look for any grass line holding schools of mullet and you’re gonna find some trout and redfish. We’ve seen the best action using the smaller J-Walker 100 plug from Berkley. 

The flounder are starting to show in better numbers in those same areas as well. I talked to numerous friends and other captains that have done well with the flounder this past week. Of course a mud minnow is still a great bet if that’s what you’re looking to catch

Some of the best action and fun we had was on top water. Nothing like seeing a top water lure getting crushed by a 28 inch redfish in shallow water next to the grass. The last third of the out going tide as well as the first half of incoming tide all up and down the intercoastal was productive this past week.  Captain Tommy Derringer www.inshoreadventures.net 9043773734 Things are warming back up this week… The wind has switched back around out of the south and we’re getting a taste of the early parts of summer this week. The fishing last week and over the weekend was fantastic for me in the south end of Saint Augustine. We were chasing large schools of redfish up very shallow. I was fishing out of my Maverick skiff and that was a good thing because we got up super skinny to find some big redfish laid up. We were mostly tossing some of the new Gulp products at those skinny water redfish. The new nemesis prawn is an absolute fish slayer. As this week goes on the tide is going to be ideal to get out early and toss a top water plug. My favorites for this time of year are definitely the Berkeley J-Walker 120 and the 100. I prefer the 120 when the tide is up a little higher and if it’s a little shallow I’ll switch to the smaller 100 size. If you can find mudminnows that seems to be the live ...

Captain Tommy Derringer www.inshoreadventures,net 9043773734  This past week, it was tough to get out, especially some afternoons with the big change in the weather. We had quite a few afternoon thunderstorms. After a long dry spell it was something we definitely needed, but the fish didn’t seem to like it too much. The bite definitely slowed down a little bit over the weekend with more weather coming through. This typically happens right around this time of year we get close to summer. The fish will acclimate and things will get back to normal. As we head into this week, we’ve got a low tide early in the morning, which is a great time to get out and look for some skinny water redfish. There’s a shrimp hatch in the north and St. Augustine and the redfish are feeding on shrimp heavily. If you can sneak into a creek at dead low tide and fish one of the bends or deeper holes with a shrimp and jig you’re pretty sure to catch a few fish.
