The beginning of this week surely shows the promise that Spring is here. Temperatures will hover in the 80’s for the next week and the fishing forecast will improve quickly. Look for the sheepshead to begin their final spawn and this will improve the chances that you’ll be able to catch a nice mess of fish. Use small shrimp, fiddlers and clams on a 1/8-1/4oz jig, Carolina rig, or float rigs to help bag a few. The trout bite should continue to be good this week on the docks, bridges and creek mouths. With this swing in temperatures the water will warm quickly and bait should be begin to show on the beaches, live bottom spots, and reefs offshore. Pogies, sardines and cigar minnows are excellent bait and can be used for a multitude of species. Make sure you are carrying a few Sabiki rigs ready to go with a nice cast net for quick access. Use these live baits to fish for reds, trout, and anything dwelling on the bottom offshore. I saw a few Spanish mackerel yesterday so looks like the striking fish are right around the corner. Be prepared!
